Defender of art as a driving force for social transformation. He combined his artistic work with political militancy and active participation in the organisation of fundamental events for the renewal of Galician art and its modes of organisation: the open-air sculpture exhibition at Parque municipal do Castro (Vigo, 1974), the exhibitions at the Praza da Princesa (Vigo, 1970s), Atlántica (1980-1983), Asociación Galega de Artistas Visuais (created in 1997) and Foro da Cultura Galega (1999-2001).
In the 1960s, Huete moved to live in Vigo and later to Barcelona to continue his training at the Massana School and the San Jordi School of Fine Arts. Later, in Berlin, he continued studying and was able to travel to different parts of Europe, becoming interested in pop art, expressionism and abstraction, opting stylistically for the latter in most of his work.
In the early 1980s he took part in and was a promoter of the activities organised by the Atlántica collective, which aimed to contribute to the renewal of the Galician creative scene, introducing technical approaches linked to American abstract expressionism. Between 1981 and 1982 Huete lived in New York, where he gradually defined his personal style, while researching into an abstraction based on chromatic games that structure his compositions.
Working in series, a methodology that he would maintain throughout his career and which accentuates the processual and chained nature of his work, allows us to appreciate the progressive increase in gesturality, which would characterise the following works. [The backgrounds will play an increasingly important role, anticipating future works, but they remain on the same surface level as the form.
After his American period he returned to Pontevedra, setting up his studio in the town of Domaio, and alternating his creative and teaching work (Doctor at the University of Vigo) with that of curator of several exhibitions, as well as that of illustrator, collaborating in numerous books and publications.
Huete exhibited regularly in exhibitions such as the Bienal de Pontevedra, in institutions such as the Museo do Pobo Galego, the Casa da Parra or the Kiosco Alfonso in A Coruña, and also in galleries such as Gruporzán, Abel Lepina or Trinta. Currently, his work is present in outstanding collections such as the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Museo de Belas Artes da Coruña, Fundación ABANCA, Museo del Grabado de Buenos Aires, Museo Municipal Quiñones de León de Vigo or Universidad de Santiago de Compostela.
