It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Anna Turbau.

Today, unfortunately, we must communicate the sad news of the passing of Anna Turbau (Barcelona, 1949-2025).

It is difficult to convey at this emotional moment, all that her work meant, characterized by great sensitivity, generosity and a strong social and political commitment, especially highlighting her photographs of many of the key moments in the history -and everyday life- of Galicia in the 70s, where she returned several times throughout her life until today and which was for her a place with which she had a special bond; Both in Galicia and in Catalonia, her works focused mainly on marginal groups or social movements, and occasionally on portraits of personalities from the cultural world or more distant places, such as Cuba.

Thus, workers, politicians, gypsies, immigrants, psychiatric inmates, the first squatters of Barcelona, prisoners, seafarers, students, rural inhabitants... and above all, many women and children have passed through his lens and his intuitive gaze. Those people who inhabited the margins and fought for their rights, their dignity, for justice and the necessary political and social change in such complicated times as the last years of Franco's regime and the Transition. They needed not only to be documented, but also to have their humanity captured, achieving in that fleeting moment, images of great strength and beauty.

Anna was an exceptional woman, personally and professionally, and her loss leaves a great void, but she will always be present through her wonderful work, so we feel fortunate and grateful for the possibility of continuing to enjoy it.

From Nordés we want to send all our support and affection to her family and friends, especially to her son. Also to those who accompanied her from the beginning or at the end of her professional path, all always linked to so many personal stories and of which I have had the honor to be part at the end of her life, thanks to those links that we unconsciously weave and unite us, shaping our destiny. Therefore, from a personal point of view: thank you Narelle, Natalia, Silvia and the Photographic team for being part of this plot...

We all know that she was very excited at this time and eager to start and resume several projects that can no longer be, but she leaves us an important, immense and wonderful legacy and from Nordés, along with the Photographic Social Vision Foundation of Barcelona, we will continue working to position and promote it as it deserves; For my part, as her first gallery, I work to introduce her to the “world of contemporary art” (as in her recent participation in Arco for the first time), a world she never imagined she would become part of but which, for obvious reasons, was inevitable.

In this respect, we are comforted to know that Anna was beginning to see, albeit belatedly, a well-deserved and growing recognition for a job that is undoubtedly magnificent.

We will miss you very much Anna, but you will always be with us.

Thank you for everything.
